So how did fats get on the naughty list to begin with? Post-World War II, research began emerging that seemed to link foods with saturated fats, like eggs and red meat, to coronary heart disease. By the 1960s, the American Heart Association had recommended that people reduce their fat intake, and in 1976, the U.S. Senate held a series of committee meetings on the topic. Subsequent food guidelines advocated for eating less saturated fat and more carbohydrates, triggering a war on fat.

Oils labeled as "partially hydrogenated." Most partially hydrogenated oils are made from vegetable oils like soybean or cottonseed, according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest. Partially hydrogenated oils are trans fats — fats that the FDA claims have been shown to increase your risk for heart disease. Recently, the FDA ruled that manufacturers must remove all trans fats from their products by 2018. You should remove partially hydrogenated oils from your diet, too, Warren says.
I always thought that we should try to avoid fats that are high in saturated fats and go for those that are high in mono and/or poly unsaturated fats. "Oils that have a high percentage of saturated fatty acids are your best choice for cooking." From this comment in your article can we assume that oil derived from animal fats like lard which are high in saturated fats are good for cooking; i.e from a health point of view. This runs contrary to the commonly held view that we should try to avoid saturated fats.
Summing it up, Lichtenstein, who served on the AHA's panel, said that coconut oil does not have any unique heart-health benefits, and its "halo effect" — meaning its perception by the public as a healthful food — is probably not justified from a scientific perspective. There is not any reason to use coconut oil rather than unsaturated oils, and there are potentially disadvantages from its high content of saturated fat, she said.

I have to say I used to have this belief that Saturated Fats were unhealthy. BUt there are tons and tons of information out there by doctors, nutritionists, etc that say Saturated Fats are essential for health. It is untrue that saturated fats contribute to heart disease. I know its hard to say but after reading and listening to the science of it all, SCIENCE is the key work, its just a big ol myth. Remember back in the 50s or so they made up a whole myth that Fat in general was bad and everyone started eating margarine and hydrogenated oils which actually caused heart disease. Crazy right? Don't believe everything you hear or read. But there is definitely enough information out there that you will make a sound decision.

The term “vegetable oil” is used to refer to any oil that comes from plant sources, and the healthfulness of a vegetable oil depends on its source and what it’s used for. Most vegetable oils on the market are a blend of canola, corn, soybean, safflower, palm and sunflower oils. “Generally I tell people to use olive oil whenever you can instead of a corn or a soybean oil,” says Weinandy. They’re not necessarily bad for you, she says, “but you can get so much more benefit from olive oil.”
Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is a natural phyto-cannabinoid (or plant-based chemical compound) found in cannabis plants, including hemp and marijuana. Unlike other cannabinoids — namely tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC — CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects, and will actually counteract these effects to a degree. CBD will induce feelings of sleepiness; for this reason, it can be an effective soporific for people who struggle to fall and/or remain asleep due to insomnia and other sleep disorders.
Based on the AHA panel’s conclusions, it sounds like an obvious choice: Oils that have the most polyunsaturated fats, like corn and soybean, appear to be the healthiest overall because they have the most benefit for heart health. But that’s not the real message. The panel’s work echoes what you’ve been hearing for years: All other factors in your diet being equal, the type of fats you consume—not the total amount of them—is the most important thing. So there is no single oil to anoint as “the winner.” The answer instead involves different types of oils and how we consume them:

Cannabis sales have been illegal since the 1970 Controlled Substances Act was passed, with the only exceptions being the products made from the "mature stalk" and "sterilized seed" of the hemp plant, which could still be sold since they contained little to no psychoactive components. Even today, federal law has not changed its stance on cannabis. On the state level, however, things have changed dramatically. As of this writing, there are 30 states that have legalized the sale of cannabis in some form, whether that be medicinally or recreationally. Because federal law continues to outlaw the production and sales of cannabis aside from the CBD oil and hemp seed oil from hemp plants, it is illegal for states that have legalized cannabis to sell products across state borders.
The oil contained in the hemp seed is 75-80% polyunsaturated fatty acids (the good fats) and only 9-11% of the less desired saturated fatty acids. In general, North Americans have a high dietary deficiency in essential fatty acids due to our high intake of animal fats versus plant fats, caused by our high consumption of processed foods and meats versus natural organic foods.

Olive oil. “Olive oil is my favorite,” says Sara Haas, RD, LDN, a chef in Chicago and spokeswoman for the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Made from ripe olives, olive oil is a basic ingredient of the heart-healthy Mediterranean diet and is best for drizzling on salads, pasta, and bread. It’s okay to use the oil for a quick sauté or for baking, but it has a low smoke point (the temperature at which the oil begins to break down and starts to smoke), so it’s not good for deep frying, says Beth Warren, MS, RD, a nutritionist in private practice in New York City and author of Living a Real Life With Real Food.
Since hemp can be used to produce thousands of items including paper, clothing, construction materials, automobile parts and foods and can even be used as a biofuel, 39 states have introduced pro-hemp legislation and 22 have actually passed it. The legislation may have started off as symbolic, but earlier this year, in a move supported by hemp legalization advocates, Congress voted to include an amendment in the Farm Bill that would legalize hemp production for research purposes.
Apparently, Coconut oil is special...medium chain molecules putting it in the middle of bad and good (long being good). What makes coconut oil the best for cooking is that it is safe for cooking and storing to the very last drop. Be sure to buy cold pressed, unrefined, virgin organic. Pricey yes, but I never take a chance on trans fats and poor processing. I buy Nutiva for taste and smell. With olive oil, the temperature must be low, otherwise the oil is of no advantage at all. In other words, it is a balance of temperature and lipid type (chain molecules)percentages. Avoid saturated fats from meat source excepting fish, especially pink to red fish colour fish that have omega 3's.
