A study done in Spain of about 7,500 men and women at high risk of heart disease found that people who were advised to consume a Mediterranean-diet supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil or mixed nuts had a lower rate of heart attack, stroke and death from heart-related causes, compared with people who were advised only to follow a generally low-fat diet. These findings appeared in 2013 in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Dispensaries: In states where marijuana is legal for recreational use, dispensaries are a common sight. They are much rarer in states with more restrictions. In states that permit the use of medical marijuana, hemp-based CBD oils do not normally require a prescription but marijuana-based oils do. Canola oil is not really a natural oil it is manufactured oil from rapeseed. “Canola oil is made with a highly unnatural processing method that involves high heat, deodorization and the toxic solvent hexane. We thumbed through the latest research, the USDA’s database on food nutrition and safety, and consulted with registered dietitian Hillary Wright to identify the health benefits of eight different oils and when it’s best to use them (depending on their smoke points) to make your time in the kitchen less daunting and more nutritious. Just remember, moderation is key. “It’s best to follow the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and limit oils and saturated fats to less than 10 percent of your overall calories per day,” Wright says.

I don’t mean to burst any bubbles, but coconut oil isn’t quite the miracle cream it’s advertised as. Well, actually, as a cream, it is kind of a miracle worker (there are so many ways to use it for beauty), but when it comes to preparing meals, we can’t suggest a free pass to eat as much as you want. In fact, by some measures, it’s about as healthy as butter. Shaw tells SELF that, much like butter, the reason it’s solid at room temperature is because it has a high content of saturated fat—12 grams per 1 tablespoon. There’s a lot of debate over whether or not saturated fat is good or bad for you, so this intel doesn’t mean you should totally rule out coconut oil. Walter C Millet, M.D. explains in a Harvard health letter that coconut oil, unlike most other saturated fats, raises both your “good” and “bad” cholesterol, and since it’s the ratio of those that matters most to heart health, it gives the oil an edge over butter or lard. But overall, Lisa R. Young, Ph.D., R.D., C.D.N., tells SELF you’re better off using other oils, like extra-virgin olive oil. The exception: baking. That creamy, fatty quality makes coconut oil a great vegan butter alternative for baked goods. If you do want to use it for other methods like sautéing or roasting, know that it has a relatively low smoke point of 350 degrees F.
When comparing saturated vs. unsaturated fat, it’s generally recommended that unsaturated fatty acids should make up the majority of your fat intake. There is very little risk of intoxication from hemp oil as all forms of hemp oil come from food-grain strains of hemp. Donald Abrams was a member of the committee that reviewed the evidence that went into producing the report, and he said that the studies they reviewed overwhelmingly used pharmaceutically available preparations that contain THC, including dronabinol, nabilone and the whole-plant extract spray nabiximols, which contains equal parts CBD and THC. It’s impossible to know whether the benefits of cannabis can also be obtained from CBD alone, Abrams said, because CBD is just one of 400 chemicals present in the plant. So far, CBD in isolation has been studied in only a handful of randomized, placebo-controlled trials (considered the gold standard of evidence in medical research), and the evidence remains sparse.
Research to date points to polyunsaturated fats as an important factor in why plant-rich eating patterns are heart-healthy. Apparently, Coconut oil is special...medium chain molecules putting it in the middle of bad and good (long being good). What makes coconut oil the best for cooking is that it is safe for cooking and storing to the very last drop. Be sure to buy cold pressed, unrefined, virgin organic. Pricey yes, but I never take a chance on trans fats and poor processing. I buy Nutiva for taste and smell. With olive oil, the temperature must be low, otherwise the oil is of no advantage at all. In other words, it is a balance of temperature and lipid type (chain molecules)percentages. Avoid saturated fats from meat source excepting fish, especially pink to red fish colour fish that have omega 3's.
